The DSW Group Edge

Here at The DSW Group we believe in the importance of being well-rounded. We love our work but also many other activities. We encourage and support our employees in their efforts to improve quality of life by becoming fitter through running and triathlon and to expand their minds in the non-technical area of literature. Below are our current programs for helping make DSW an even more interesting and satisfying place to spend our work days.

The Midtown Athletic Club at Windy Hill

Employment at The DSW Group, Ltd. includes a membership at the nearby Midtown Athletic Club at Windy Hill. We encourage all employees to make consistent use of this wonderful facility, easily one of the best in the city. Available activities include swimming, cardio classes & machines, basketball, rock climbing, tennis, beach volleyball, squash, racquetball...the list is practically endless. Additionally there are extra curricular activities such as socials & cookouts. Our favorite part is the active triathlon contingent that works out there.

Terry Dietzler, an active marathon participant, is currently training for the Louisville Ironman in August, 2007. For more information see http://ironman.com/events/ironman/louisville

Jessica Hungerford, another triathlete, is currently training for her first marathon. A glutten for punishment, she's chosen Grandfather Mountain as her first. If you can do that one, you can probably handle just about anything. Check out her results on July 14th, 2007 at http://www.hopeformarrow.org/gmminfo.htm

Reading Geeks

The DSW Group also sponsors a reading group. It began in 1998 and was a company-sponsored group of employees that met once a week and discussed a common book. The idea was to capture the essence of a literature class, analyzing and dissecting books as a group to gain extra insight but without the pesky grades. We keep the weekly page count relatively low to encourage careful reading. During the first incarnation, we voted on books to read amongst the group. This lead to an interesting collection of books, some good, some...well, unusual. What we really wanted was an objective list of literature to solve this random-selection process and make sure we were reading worthwhile books. In 1999, Random House published their list of the 100 Greatest English-language Novels of the 20th Century. We've managed to read our way down the list to #19.
